The Altoona-Midway Jets were at home this last Friday night to take on the Pleasanton Blue Jays. After a 20-minutes delay, the Blue Jays won the toss and started on offense. The Jets made short work of the Blue Jays with a solid defensive stand. The Blue Jays punted and recovered the ball from the Jets after a Jets fumble. The Jets defense remained relentless, holding the Blue Jays, once again, to 3 and out.
Once the Jets were on offense it only took 6 plays for Lane Huffman to score the first touchdown of the game. In the game, Huffman rushed 10 times for 111 yards, Anderson 10 times for 51, Browne 10 times for 38, Boles 2 time for 16, and Wood 4 times for 2. The Jets attempted 4 passes between Browne and Huffman completing 3 of them, one of which was for a touchdown. Overall, the Jets rushed for 213 yards and threw for just under 50 yards.
“One thing we need to take care of after this game is holding onto the ball. We put it on the ground 5 times and lost 4 of those,” said Coach Payne.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Jets had 55 tackles and one INT returned for 9 yards. Carter had 8 tackles, which is big after the game on Tuesday when he only had 1. “That was a big step for him while playing linebacker and being a freshman out there. This is an adjustment that we worked on with him and the other freshman, Wood; getting them up and filling the holes in the middle of the defense,” said Coach Payne. Lee Phillips and Tyler Stoldt took care of the middle of the line, combining for about 7 tackles. Browne led the team with 12 tackles.
The game ended with the Jets on top with 28 and the Blue Jays, 12.
