I’d like to welcome everyone back for the 2012-2013 school year. I hope this will be a healthy year for everyone. I will include a safety tip in each month’s newsletter again this year. Some newsletters will also include an additional page with nutrition or school related news. I would like to thank all parents for your cooperation in getting all the necessary health records and health forms to me in a very timely manner this year. Almost all records were received before the first day of school. That has allowed me to focus on screenings and other duties sooner. THANKS!!!
Vision and hearing screening will begin in September for elementary students. Screening for middle and high school students will begin in October or November. Dental screenings will be done on October 16, 2012. Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas will be doing the screenings again this year. This year they will be offering free fluoride treatments, sealants, and cleaning to students with permission slips signed. If you did not sign a permission slip and want your student to receive any of these services, contact the school.
The Wilson County Health Department will be doing a flu vaccine clinic at the school on October 4, 2012. The nasal flu mist will be given unless a student has a medical condition that prohibits the live vaccine. Shots will be available for students with medical conditions or if the parent prefers the shot. If you want your student to receive the flu vaccination and have not filled out a consent form, contact the school for the consent form and more information. All consent forms need to be turned in to the school by September 28.
If you have any concerns about your student, please notify me at school on Tuesdays or Thursdays (at the elementary school in the morning and the middle/high school in the afternoon) or at the Wilson County Health Department (378-4455) at other times.
Clean out your medicine cabinet and safely dispose of medications that are outdated or not needed anymore. Don’t flush down the toilet or put in the trash. Contact your local health department or law enforcement to find your community drop off location.
